Mythos AI Rolls Out Revolutionary Sea-Pilot Assistance for Safer Shipping

Smarter Navigation at Sea

US maritime tech company Mythos AI has installed its Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) on the CB Pacific, a chemical tanker owned by *CB Tankers. The move marks another step in its mission to bring AI-driven navigation to shipping.

Unlike most tools that rely mainly on cameras, APAS uses a radar-first approach. It connects to the ship’s radar, processes the data, and delivers clear insights to the crew. The system reduces stress, improves awareness, and keeps human judgement at the centre.

A Tool for Safer Operations

“Mythos AI is not here to replace sailors,” said Geoff Douglass, CEO of Mythos AI. “Our system equips crews with better tools. By merging radar perception, machine vision, and alerts with vessel dynamics, APAS turns complex data into clear decisions. This improves safety and resilience.”

The CB Pacific was chosen for trials because of its regular routes and reliable radar setup. It follows the first APAS test, which took place in August 2025 on a towboat in the Mississippi River. Together, the trials show how the company wants to bring next-generation bridge intelligence into global shipping.

Real-World Testing Underway

The test on the CB Pacific will run for one year. It will check safety, reliability, and compliance with international collision rules (COLREGs). Crews will use the system daily to see how it performs under real-world conditions.

Douglass said partnerships are vital for growth. “Working with lomarlabs and CB Tankers lets APAS learn from master mariners and port practices worldwide. This helps us prove the system at scale and prepare for fleet adoption.”

Innovation at Sea

CB Tankers is part of the Lomar Group. Its innovation arm, lomarlabs, backs the project. “Real progress doesn’t come from slides or pitch decks,” said Stylianos Papageorgiou, Managing Director of lomarlabs. “It comes from real voyages, port calls, and sea trials.”

Beyond Commercial Shipping

APAS has also caught the eye of the defence sector. By combining radar with AI, it offers stronger safety tools and faster decision-making. If proven at scale, it could reshape how ships move through busy and strategic waterways.

Mythos AI believes this system is a step toward safer seas. By supporting mariners instead of replacing them, APAS could set a new standard for AI-powered navigation.
